Neighbour Day is Calgary’s annual celebration of community spirit, held on the third Saturday of June, when neighbours across the city connect through block parties, barbecues and park meetups.
About
Neighbour Day began in 2014 as a way for Calgarians to rebuild community connections after the 2013 floods. Each year the City designates the third Saturday in June for neighbours to get together, and community associations, business improvement areas and non-profits can apply for City microgrants to put on free public events.
Typical Neighbour Day events include block parties, community barbecues, park cleanups and open houses at community halls. The day is decentralized by design: there is no main stage or single venue, just hundreds of small gatherings in neighbourhoods across the city.
