Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music

The Mountain View International Festival of Song and Chamber Music is a classical music festival held each August in Calgary. It pairs masterclasses for emerging musicians with public concerts of art song and chamber music.

The festival is devoted to art song and chamber music, a fairly specific corner of classical music. The program combines a summer masterclass program for young musicians with public concerts featuring local players and visiting artists. The same society also runs a year-round concert series for emerging artists called Mountain View Connection.

It was founded by Alberta-born pianist Kathleen van Mourik as Canada’s only summer masterclass and concert festival focused on art song and chamber music. The festival is run by The International Festival of Song and Chamber Music Society, a registered charity. A society newsletter from March 2009 shows the festival was already running by then, but we could not pin down a founding year from an original source.
