Ignite! Theatre-Arts Festival is a four-day showcase of new work by emerging artists, produced by Sage Theatre every June at the Pumphouse Theatre.
About
Ignite is a multi-disciplinary festival built around new work. The programs include original one-act plays, dance and movement pieces, and performances that blur genre lines, spread across the Pumphouse’s two theatres. It is as much an artist incubator as a festival: participating artists get rehearsal space, production support, mentorship from established professionals, and an honorarium.
The festival was founded in 2005 by Calgary’s Sage Theatre as a launchpad for emerging artists. It has run for nearly 20 years at the Pumphouse Theatres, pairing new artists with professional mentors. The 2020 edition was billed as the 16th annual.
