The Stampede combines a world-class rodeo, chuckwagon races, and an evening Grandstand Show with fireworks, alongside a midway, concerts on multiple stages, agricultural showcases, and Indigenous programming. The whole city gets into it, with free pancake breakfasts and office parties all week. The 2026 edition drew over 1.4 million attendees.
Guy Weadick founded the Stampede in 1912 as the Frontier Days and Cowboy Championship Contest. It merged with the Calgary Industrial Exhibition in 1923 to become the annual 10-day event known today.
