The Calgary Highland Games are a one-day Scottish gathering of pipers, drummers, highland dancers and heavy-event athletes, traditionally held the first Saturday of September.
About
The games pack caber tossing, stone put, hammer throw and weight over bar into one day, along with piping, drumming and highland dance competitions. Athletes and performers come from across Western Canada and the US, and the Calgary United Scottish Games Association has run it as one of the oldest Scottish gatherings in North America.
The first games were held in 1913. The Calgary Games Society now keeps the tradition going through thecalgarygames.ca, which speaks of honouring Celtic traditions.
No editions ran in 2024, 2025 or 2026 as far as we could find, though local listings mention a possible return in 2027. The last edition we could confirm was in 2023, and nothing has been announced since.
