Calgary Contests

Below is a list of contests you can enter! Winning stuff is fun. We regularly host Calgary contests. You can usually find them on our social media accounts – Instagram, Facebook, Twitter/X, Threads, or Bluesky. Occasionally we’ll run contests on the Calgary Discord Server too.

Our Approach To Contests

In case anyone was wondering how we run our contests, I’ll explain. We’ve always tried to be as fair as possible when running contests, using various tools and websites to pick winners automatically instead of doing it by hand. This keeps things straight up and fair.

Most contests are done via Osortoo, an app we picked up from https://AppSumo.com (they do lifetime deals on software, for deep discounts).

    Orsortoo is a cloud based application that exists to simply pick random winners from social media contests, including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, as well as an instant winner tool. It’s not a free tool but it’s pretty reasonably priced, especially compared to their competitors. Orsortoo is easy to use and works perfectly for our needs.

Multi-platform Contests

Because we have a following on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, we’re able to ‘span’ one single contest across each platform effectively. For example, let’s say we were giving away a family pack of tickets to the zoo, we could post the same contest to each platform, where people would enter as normal. People will increase their odds of winning by entering all three, too. It looks like three separate contests, however when it comes time to pick a winner, it’s a slightly different process.

Essentially we pick a ‘semi-finalist’ winner then compete them against each other for the overall final winner.

  1. Pick a winner from each platform, type out their info in Notepad.
  2. Give each winner a number, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, etc (depending on the number of winners)
  3. Head to https://www.random.org and use their true random number generator to randomly pick a number between 1 and whatever the last number is. For example, 1-5.
  4. Whichever number is picked, is the overall winner.
  5. If there is more than one winner, just keep picking random numbers etc.

It works great.

Announcing Contest Winners

Something we try to do as often as possible is to mention whom won the contest, however it’s not always done. If it is done, where possible the original contest post will be updated to include the winner(s) name/account name, and if it’s an Instagram contest, the winner will be shared in an Instagram story.

We may not share the winner if the contest is will call. That’s where someone’s name is added to the list at the door and they need to mention their name to get it. For example, if Bob Smith won tickets to see GWAR, it might be risky to mention that publicly. Someone could potentially show up and say hi I’m Bob Smith! – thus creating an issue.
