History Of Temple
The land that is now Temple was proposed under the name of "Montrose" in the early 1910s, but was never developed due to the Great Depression. The land was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1961, and Temple was established with development beginning in 1977.
Temple, alongside Rundle, Pineridge, and Whitehorn were all developed under a cluster called "The Properties", where each of their names ended with "Properties". Temple Properties was later renamed to Temple. The community was named after Robert Temple, a local rancher who settled in the area in the early 1900s.
