History Of Bankview
Bankview's history starts in 1882, when William Nimmons bought land from the Hudson's Bay Company and established the 3-D-Bar Ranch. His 1884 residence still stands as a designated heritage home. When a housing shortage hit Calgary in 1902, Nimmons began selling off plots, and in 1908 the City of Calgary acquired the rest of the land, establishing Bankview as a neighbourhood.
In 1950, Bankview was extensively redesigned to allow higher-density development, giving it the mix of heritage houses, apartments and condos seen today. The community holds a Heritage Day each September, with walks touring its historic homes.
